Water Fluoridation
Adding fluoride compounds to drinking water has been in practice since the 1950s.
Compounds used by your water utility might be:
- fluorosilicic acid
- sodium fluorosilicate, or
- sodium fluoride.
Each of those fluoride compounds is toxic.
A retired Washington dentist has been raising awareness in the state for years. He has repeatedly prodded the Department of Health (DOH) to change their water fluoridation policy. Please read Dr. Bill Osmunson’s most recent open letter on reasons to end water fluoridation.
Dr. Osmunson has reasons for optimism that the cavalry may be coming if the DOH doesn’t react to the recent National Toxicology Program’s findings about fluoride in drinking water.
On May 7, 2025, Utah became the first state to ban community drinking water fluoridation with their Governor signing HB 0081 in April.
Florida will become the second state to ban fluoridation of municipal drinking water. Governor Desantis signed the “Florida Farm Bill,” which among other things makes it against the law to fluoridate municipal water supplies. The law goes into effect July 1, 2025.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., working closely with Director Lee Zeldin of the EPA, will be urgently reviewing the need and risks for water fluoridation in the country. See this April 7th news release from the EPA.
Please read and share this CHD pamphlet to educate others, especially young families, on the realities of water fluoridation.
